Old Providence Island located in the Caribbean Sea with a population in the actuality of proximately 5000 inhabitants.
Caribbean people with costumes and traditions inherited from English and Africans influence that predominate from generation to generation.
In the early 40's Music, dance and gastronomy has become a way of social reunions where the community comes together to have fun and entertainment in so important event like The Fare and Dance.
Music, dance and food were not only the excuse that community comes together, it was also associated with businesses around the farmers and fisherman's who provide the products for the fair and dance.
The spice of islander's kitchen was delighted in the different dishes and sweets, prepared by woman whit strong conviction of ancestral background.
Fare and Dance was the perfect moment to meet young Lady's. Young boys worked overtime to collect enough money to invite the young lady to dance because after each tune he had to invite her to the food table to choose a dish of her choice.
The folk music like shotiz, mento, jumping polka, calypso and many others gems was the sounds of those days represented by recognized musician who was wanted by them popular skill in the community lick the best.
The Salon music whit English back ground and the popular music inherited from African tradition form a style of Dance combine in Elegancy and Glamour.
In those day's young people cud not participate in a Fear and Dance until them Reach 21 years Old and also was not Allowed that Kid and Parents dance at the same time on the dance floor considered not approached and Sean well in the community.
More dancing more food is collected, guaranteeing food for several days at home.
This tradition of Fare and Dance was also a way to collect funds to address health needs helping poor families.
Gastronomy, music, dance and tradition has been linked in our culture and community for a long time, sparking cheers and traditions that will always be tied to our idiosyncrasy and the call to revive inseparable customs of our ancestors.
The folk music played an important role in social events, helping our culture to be more accessible and bring unity to our community.
